Have you inadvertently broken the law?

If you use your car for any work purposes in addition to commuting between your home and your usual place of business,
you’ll need business car insurance.

This could include:

  • Running work-related errands, such as driving to the post office or shop
  • Delivering parcels for a courier, or for your employer
  • Driving between different job sites or workplaces
  • Driving to business meetings or client visits

If you don’t have business insurance for your car and you have an accident while driving for work, you won’t be able to make a claim.  Standard personal car insurance won’t usually cover you for driving while working.  So, by not having business insurance for your car, you could end up – unwittingly – driving while uninsured.

This is something that is becoming more commonplace.  Driving without the correct insurance is illegal, and if you are found to be driving uninsured, you could face criminal charges.

As with anything such as this, it is often best to do a quick double-check with your policy provider to confirm the details of your policy.
